World War II resulted in large numbers of Commonwealth citizens enlisting in the armed forces. During World War II, Afro-Caribbean and Black British women broke racial and gender barriers by serving in the British Armed Forces, working in munitions factories, volunteering as civil defense wardens, and using broadcasting to boost Allied morale. Figures like Lilian Bader and Constance Mark paved the way despite early official restrictions.
